AI Engineer – Intelligent Systems & Automation

Engagement: Freelance (Part Time / 2 Days a week)

The Opportunity

A professional services organisation based in Bruges is investing heavily in building AI-powered internal tools to improve efficiency and automate business processes.

As part of this initiative, the company is developing a cloud-based application within Microsoft Azure while also experimenting with locally hosted AI models running on internal infrastructure. The aim is to combine modern AI capabilities with secure data handling to support internal teams with smarter workflows and automation.

To help accelerate this work, we are looking for an AI Engineer who enjoys building practical AI solutions, thinking about system architecture, and taking ownership of implementation.

You will collaborate with external specialists responsible for software development and infrastructure, while playing a key role in shaping and delivering the AI capabilities within the environment.

What You’ll Be Working On

Cloud-Based AI Integration

One part of the role will focus on enhancing an existing application running in Azure by embedding advanced AI functionality.

Responsibilities include:

  • Connecting large language models to an existing business application

  • Designing automated AI-driven processes that can generate suggestions, prepare tasks, and execute them with human oversight

  • Creating monitoring, logging, and control layers to ensure safe and transparent AI behaviour

  • Collaborating with a development team working primarily within a .NET-based stack

Internal AI Environment

Alongside the cloud project, you will also help explore AI solutions hosted on internal servers.

This work involves:

  • Setting up and configuring a local AI experimentation environment

  • Testing agent-style automation systems to assist with internal processes

  • Connecting models either through APIs or locally deployed services

  • Ensuring security, governance, and proper data isolation

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience integrating LLMs or AI services within applications

  • Familiarity with AI agents, orchestration frameworks, or automated workflows

  • Strong understanding of APIs and system integrations

  • Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and secure deployment practices

  • Experience with containerisation or server environments (e.g. Docker) is beneficial

  • Exposure to .NET or C# environments is useful but not essential

  • Dutch language skills are required

  • Ability to work on-site in Bruges

What You Can Expect

  • The chance to build real-world AI solutions that directly impact business operations

  • Significant technical ownership and influence over how solutions are designed and implemented

  • Collaboration with specialised external development and infrastructure partners

  • A modern office environment in Bruges

  • Competitive compensation, depending on experience and engagement model

Due to the nature of the work, confidentiality agreements will apply and intellectual property related to the developed systems will remain with the organisation.
