Koda Staff is working exclusively with GAMING1 to hire a Backend Engineer for its Sports Betting team.

This is a product-focused backend role within a high-traffic, regulated environment. You’ll work in a small, autonomous engineering team where your decisions directly influence platform stability, customer trust, compliance and time-to-market.

The Opportunity

As a Backend Engineer, you’ll design, build and evolve the backend solutions that power customer experiences and business capabilities across the Sports Betting platform.

You’ll take ownership throughout the full solution lifecycle, from design and implementation through to release, monitoring and continuous improvement. The environment experiences significant traffic peaks around live sporting events, making performance, resilience and operability central to the role.

Your Mission

• Design and build reliable, sustainable backend services
• Own solutions from initial design through to production
• Improve existing systems, tooling and engineering practices
• Maintain performance and resilience during high-traffic sporting events
• Keep product impact, reliability and regulatory requirements central to technical decisions
• Work closely with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers and other stakeholders

What You’ll Bring

• Experience as a Backend Engineer in a product-oriented environment
• Strong knowledge of API design, data modelling, testing, performance and resilience
• Experience building backend services using a statically typed language such as C#/.NET, Java, Kotlin or Go
• Understanding of event-driven architecture
• Experience with relational databases, SQL and ORMs
• The ability to own solutions from design through to production
• A pragmatic, product-minded and collaborative approach
• Comfort working within small, autonomous and cross-functional teams

Highly Valued Experience

• Professional experience with C# and .NET
• RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka or NServiceBus
• PostgreSQL
• Containerisation and Kubernetes
• GitLab CI/CD or Octopus Deploy
• Real-time or high-concurrency systems
• Observability, monitoring and alerting using tools such as Datadog
• Sports betting, iGaming or another regulated digital environment
