Koda Staff is working exclusively with GAMING1 to hire 3 Data Engineers as part of a broader scale-up of its data platform and analytics capabilities.

Each Data Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and optimising reliable, high-quality data pipelines and data products that support analytics, operational decision-making, and long-term platform scalability across the organisation.

This is an opportunity to join a business investing heavily in its data capabilities, working alongside experienced Data Engineers in a collaborative, product-oriented environment.

The Opportunity

As a Data Engineer, you will sit at the core of GAMING1’s data ecosystem, enabling teams across multiple business domains through trusted, scalable, and well-engineered data solutions.

You will contribute not just code, but also strong documentation, data quality practices, performance optimisation, and sustainable handover — ensuring solutions remain robust and maintainable over time.

Your Mission

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and data products
  • Ensure data quality through automated, business-aligned validation
  • Improve performance, cost efficiency, and maintainability of data workloads
  • Collaborate closely with peers to strengthen GAMING1’s long-term data capabilities

Key Responsibilities

Data Quality & Validation

  • Implement data quality tests aligned with business rules (completeness, thresholds, referential integrity)
  • Build technical validation tests to ensure pipeline robustness
  • Proactively identify and prevent data quality regressions

Data Engineering & Performance

  • Design and optimise cloud-based data pipelines
  • Implement idempotent and merge-based ingestion patterns
  • Introduce data contracts and performance improvements
  • Identify schema and pipeline changes that reduce compute cost and operational overhead

Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer

  • Collaborate with domain Data Engineers and relevant stakeholders
  • Document solutions clearly (e.g. README files, Confluence)
  • Run structured knowledge-transfer sessions before roll-off
  • Ensure solutions are understandable, maintainable, and owned long-term

Incident & Issue Resolution

  • Investigate failed loads or data quality breaches quickly
  • Coordinate fixes with relevant technical and business stakeholders
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of monitoring and alerting

Experience & Skills

Technical Background

  • 3+ years of experience building cloud-based data pipelines
  • Strong SQL and Python / PySpark skills
  • Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools
  • Familiarity with idempotent or merge-based ingestion patterns
  • Experience with data quality frameworks such as Great Expectations or Soda

Ways of Working

  • Strong documentation and knowledge-sharing mindset
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach
  • Willingness to mentor others and support collective ownership
  • Pride in building sustainable, production-grade data systems

What Success Looks Like

  • Reliable, trusted data pipelines used across teams
  • Fewer data quality incidents and faster resolution when issues occur
  • Well-documented solutions that are easy to maintain and extend
  • Strong collaboration within the data engineering community
